The artist John Cleveley the Elder adopted a conventional formula for this ship portrait showing the vessel both from its starboard side and its stern off the English coast and a fortified harbour town. An alternative title for this painting is 'The East Indiaman Princess Royal shown in two positions off Sheerness', and it is dated to 1770. The 499-ton 'Princess Royal' undertook two voyages for the East India Company both of which visited China. The first took place between 1770-1771, the second between 1772-1774. The owner of the vessel was Alexander Hume while the captain on both voyages was Robert Ker. Charles Hardy indicates that a vessel with the same name, captain and owner undertook two further voyages between 1777 and 1781; however the tonnage of that vessel was recorded as 864 tons.

Honourable East India Company sword, the hilt of the sword consists of a gilt stirrup guard, which is box-shaped and overhangs the pommel and the lozenge-shaped langets. The top of the pommel is engraved with a depiction of crossed pennants and a halberd with a helmet. The sides and the guard are engraved with a similar motif to the pommel. The obverse of the lozenge-shaped langets is engraved with the East India Company crest. The reverse of the lozenge-shaped langets is engraved with a foul anchor motif contained within a laurel wreath. The grip is bound with silver wire

A group of ships belonging to the East India Company are shown in fair weather with Table Mountain, Cape Town, in the background on the right. The basis for the identification of the ships derives from the painting's received title and it is currently unclear. The one in the centre is presumed to be the 'Scaleby Castle' and that on the right the 'Charles Grant'. The 'two-decker' may in fact be a Royal Naval vessel, as it appears, with the 'Minerva' beyond.

Drawing entitled 'The launch of the Honourable East India Company's ship 'Edinburgh'..., 1825. The title derives from the lithographs (PAG7006 and PAH8485, in the NMM collection) made from the drawing by Huggins's assistant and (from 1834) son-in-law Edward Duncan, and published in August 1827. The 'Edinburgh' was built by Wigram & Green at Blackwall and launched on 9 November 1825. The ship on the stocks on the left is the 'Abercrombie Robinson' which was launched the following year. The view is from a boat in the Thames looking roughly north, with the Blackwall mast house visible above the 'Edinburgh' on the edge of the Brunswick Dock.

A scene bathed in golden light showing the East Indiaman 'Hindustan' and another vessel, at anchor off the coast of China. The 'Hindustan' is probably drying its sails. A ship's boat is pulling away from the ship and there are several Chinese junks in the water. The painting is thought to commemorate the 'Hindustan's' first voyage for the East India Company to China at the start of 1790, returning just over a year later in January 1791 under Captain William Mackintosh.

The East India Company's Yard and buildings near Deptford Creek. In 1607, the Company decided to build its own ships and leased a yard in Deptford. Initially, this change of policy was fully justified, but the shipbuilding and maintenance of these yards at Deptford soon proved highly expensive to run. Later in the 17th century, the Company reverted to the practice of hiring vessels, many of which were built in the private yards at Deptford and Blackwall. In 1660 the East India Company yard consisted of a dock and two slipways on the site at Deptford Creek,

A portrait of a powerfully armed East India Company vessel, identifiable by the striped ensign, jack and pendants. The East India Company had five vessels of 750 tons or more during the reign of William III with the most likely identification of the vessel shown possibly the 'Charles the Second'. Built at Deptford in 1683 this 775-ton ship was commanded by Sir Thomas Grantham and managed four voyages to the East before the end of its service in 1695.

A depiction of a ship of the Honourable East India company, in starboard-bow view and apparently starting to take in sail on her foremast. She is flying a masthead pennant at her main truck and the red and white striped jack and ensign of the Company, and has an ornately carved lion figurehead. Figures can be seen on the deck and several members of the crew are at work in the rigging. Land is visible on the far right, with the depiction of a tower close to the cliff edge

A painting of an engagement between three East India Company ships and two French vessels, 8 March 1757'. Three homeward bound East Indiamen, the 'Suffolk', 'Houghton' and 'Godolphin' were intercepted by two French privateers off the Cape of Good Hope. The merchantmen were heavily laden and represented great riches[looted riches from india] for the French privateers. However they were unable to capture them when the Indiamen formed a line and beat them off after a three hour engagement. This relatively minor skirmish was a major success for the East India Company, which could have lost three ships and their valuable cargoes. The board of Directors amply rewarded all the ships' companies.

Lying ten miles up river from Calcutta, Chandernagore was the administrative centre of the French East India Company. The battle there was one of the many fought between the French and English on the sub-continent during the Seven Years War, 1759-1763. It gave the East India Company effective control of Calcutta and the Bengal hinterland.
